How to Celebrate Advent?

The season of Advent is a time of preparation for Christmas, a season of watchfulness, silence, and expectation.  Here are some things you can do to live this season well:

  1. Choose a daily devotional and pray every day.  Here at St. Michael’s and Old River we are proposing The Advent of Rescue, which is available at the back of the church.
  2. Set up your nativity scene on December 8.
  3. Make a good confession before Christmas.  The Advent Penance Services are December 17 at Old River and December 18 at St. Michael’s.
  4. Pray with the word Maranatha (Come, Lord Jesus) in areas where you need the Lord to be born in your life.
  5. Read a good book: we recommend the Jesus of Nazareth Infancy Narratives by Benedict XVI, Joy to the World by Scott Hahn, The Mystery of Christmas by Raniero Cantalamessa
